Now available in a 2L BPA-free bottle, This second addition to Barambah Organics’ lactose-free family (after the lactose free yoghurt), has been a very welcome one.
So why lactose-free dairy?
Did you know that research points out that approximately 65 percent of the human population has a reduced ability to digest lactose after infancy? Side effects of lactose intolerance can include flatulence and bloating, nausea and diarrhoea, as well as pain, cramps, grumbling or rumbling sounds in the lower belly.
Until now, finding lactose-free dairy that’s also certified organic has been a difficult challenge, particularly in Australia. That’s why Barambah Organics chose to fill the gap in the market with their new lactose-free, certified organic yoghurt and now milk.
Why does ‘lactose intolerance’ exist?
Lactose intolerance occurs because of the inability of some peoples digestive systems to break down the natural milk sugar, lactose.
Barambah adds a lactase enzyme (isolated from a special strain of dairy yeast) to their lactose free yoghurt and milk. This natural enzyme breaks down lactose into the simpler forms of sugars, glucose and galactose, which are much more digestible for people with lactose intolerance. This means saying goodbye to gut health problems caused by lactose!
You will also notice that the lactose free yoghurt and milk is slightly sweeter in taste. This is because the more basic sugars are not only more digestible, but more readily available to the taste buds, resulting in a sweeter taste.
Happy digesting! 🙂
